Posted on 9:57 AM by Metropolitan

Welcome to America—The Land of Opportunity. Get your green card ready because you are now arriving at the home of the ever glamorous Hollywood, the Simpsons, muscle cars, and....uhm....American Foreign Policy? Love or hate all that this country has to offer to the world, but you still can’t escape this nation’s truly powerful global influence on all aspects of our lives, and of course our fashion sense. So rather than focusing on the global style influences of American icons such as Kanye West and his shutter shades, Tom Brady and his crew neck t-shirts, Moby and his shaven head, Run DMC and their own line of adidas (we are going to stop the LONG list of celebrities here!), we are going back to school stateside for an education on spring fashion trends, collegiate style.

America certainly is unique because for the rest of the world who don’t go on spring break, and football isn’t played with the hands to the backdrop of dancing cheerleaders with tight skirts and “boobie tops” we certainly can still relate to their classic trends that are being revamped with a edgy new persona this spring. So let’s hit the books gentlemen, with an education in the basics of “Campus Chic 101”.
The greatest part about Americana is that most of you fellas will already inevitably own a few of the classic staples required to pull of their style.

Your style base will be formed around preppy long sleeved shirts of pastel colours, polo's and summer knits, and chinos or skinny jeans.

The greatest part about Americana is that you have many trendy pieces to work with that stand out and help create an All-American outfit that is still unique from that of other people. Many style staples such as aviators, wayfarers, converse, and lettermen jackets were created in America and are now style staples in other parts fo the world. Here is a small collection of truly American fashion icons that you can incorporate into your own outfit!

Nothing says American college more than a classic letterman jacket, a popular style staple amongst college kids stateside. Add this bad boy to your wardrobe to add some college chic to your outfit.

A personal favourite of our staff editor Tanya, and being adopted by our chief editor Ashbee, these shoes go great with a pair of skinny jeans and are sure to help you stand out! You can purchase these shoes either at the Converse website or find it cheaper on  Amazon .

Ray-bans are a must to pull of the American look this summer. They manufacture a multitude of models, but to be true to this trend, stick with their aviator (pictured left) or wayfarer (pictured right) models. You can get wayfarers and aviators on the Ray-ban website or purchase Wayfarers and Aviators cheaper from Amazon.

Polo's, No! not the candy pictured on the left, but rather the type of jersey that is pictured on the right will be a popular sight on American college campuses this spring. The colour blocked variety was a very popular feature on the runways of New York City's prestigious fashion week this year. And there you have it gentlemen, the key essentials to pull of Americana with flare, keep styling! Make sure to subscribe and post your comments in the comments section below.
